Are you some one with an eye for precision and taste for leading-edge innovation?
Are you some one who loves taking pictures and framing great moments?
Are you an Instagram-er?
If yes, then you should definitely have a look at the new Asus ZenFone Zoom.
Here are some shots of the phone by WhatKnot
Following are some of our key impressions about the camera on this phone
1. Optical Zoom Lens
The optical zoom or the true zoom is the phone’s standout feature. Its the first time we’re seeing this technology, traditionally reserved for the DSLRs, on a phone camera. The 3x optical zoom placed on the main/rear camera along with the groundbreaking 10 element HOYA lens, gives you the freedom to be closer to your subject and get stunning shots.
Robert Capa, the famous Hungarian photojournalist said “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough”
2. Manual settings for challenging light conditions
The phone gives you the freedom to tinker around using manual settings. That way, incase you find yourself in challenging light conditions, one can easily adjust the settings and get the desired results. Not only this, but there are tons of other intelligent settings on this 13 megapixel camera that help you capture the perfect shot.
3. What’s blur? Meet Optical Image Stabilization
We think this will come as a blessing to many. The ZenFoneZoom introduces the 4stop optical image stabilization to help you get some really steady shots. Tag this along with some quick focusing and we can happily say good-bye to those not-so-nice blurry shots.
4. Macro
There are times when you feel you need to be ultra-close to your subject to be able to frame it perfectly. The ZenFone Zoom left us impressed when we found out that it brings the macro range down to a mere 5cm (2 inches). That’s closer than most.
Since we have an intrinsic love for shooting and capturing great moments, an opportunity to find out if this new piece of equipment can give expression to our creativity, sounded like a good idea to us.
So there we were, creative intuition, artistic curiosity and the ZenFone Zoom aboard, we set out towards different parts of the city in search for good shots and some adventure-in-the-waiting.
We wanted to see just what this phone camera is capable of. So we decided to test it at different times of the day to gauge just how well this camera performs in varying light conditions. Here are some of the results
In daylight by the Gateway of India and South Mumbai
The city of dreams, Mumbai is always a great subject. What better place to shoot in Mumbai than The Gateway of India and South Mumbai with its serene and vintage architectural structures.
Indoors
Next test was the Indoor shoot. Here are some of the results

Evening
As light began to fade, we wondered how the camera would perform. Have a look. We even tried a long exposure.

In a nutshell, the Asus Zenfone Zoom is your pocket DSLR. Its not a something with which you can kick start a photography business but it is definitely something that is going to upgrade the quality of your images on Instagram. Its a great phone for photographers on the go, Instagram-ers and just about anybody looking to create some breathtaking images.
